"When we finally agreed I wasn't hallucinating..."

However, I know this because I took it apart this morning in a last ditch effort to clean the "ink dumps" and remedy a terminal "Service Stall". No luck. Customer service was little help; they insisted via email and phone, from their distant cubes, that the error message flashing on the little screen in the upper left corner of the printer in my office must read "Carriage Stall" since "Service Stall" wasn't among their list of trouble-shooting options. When we finally agreed I wasn't hallucinating, they did offer to have a look for a $278 (my warranty has expired).

Of course, that's the error message *i'm* getting now on my HP B9180. So... i know what i'm in for *if* i call tech support. I think i'll try a few other things first...

1280x720 widescreen (16:9) high rez scribble streaming

Not that you REALLY want to get that close to the detail of what i'm drawing, but in reaction to Justin TV's front page change (which happened like, what, 1 day after i first started using it?) i'm presented with looking to go to a 16:9 format for the default.  I have no problem with this - i just did some testing with the settings on Quicktime Broadcaster and it actually looked pretty good.

The only problem i can see at the moment is that the archives - where you can go back and make clips from the recordings of your shows - does not seem to be widescreen at all - it goes back to the normal 4:3 ratio, and STRETCHES it to fit.  The end result is that it makes all of the drawings look, uh, well, pretty crappy.

Just something else i'll need to look into, but it can wait.  RIght now, i gotta get the framing for the next comic on deck so i can actually draw.  I should be doing that here in an hour or so...

UPDATE: ah, that's interesting - if i download the video, the download IS in widescreen.  So it's just an issue with the clip player.  I will experiment with making a clip and see if THAT can be played widescreen.

hiccups in the tangled web

Grr.  I'm not sure what is causing it, but every time i try to launch Colloquy (my IRC client for mac) my computer has a kernel panic and tells me i need to reboot.  It was doing it a few days ago, and now its doing it again.  That's the trouble with computers, i thing, god knows what combination of the stuff i use is suddenly causing this instability.  I think it might have something to do with SoundFlowerBed, but i'm not sure - especially since its not even running.  The instability started when i did a system update which was just a Safari update (which i don't even use).  It might have something to do with now using Qucktime Broadcaster, but im not sure....

Grr.  what a pain.

Rocking Motorcycle? No, i want a Rocking Chocobo.

Oh, i am SO getting one for Jack... no, wait. Hm. No, bad idea. He already looks longingly at the rides Weekend Warriors trundle past our house when the weather is nice (I am waiting for me to ask why the smallest vehicles make more sound than all the other rolly things on the road combined) so maybe this would NOT be such a good idea.

I wonder if anyone has ever made a rocking HorseClaw or Rocking Chocobo. THAT would be cool.

Printing, Posting and Streaming

Almost done at the warehouse printing a few decks of shirts Sarah needs for today's shipments, just waiting for the last few shirts to finish printing.  I swear, learning use a Direct to Garment printer well is a real artform, akin to tinkering and knowing exactly how to get that old classic car or fancy steampunky thingamagig humming along gracefully.  There are so many variables, it's taken the past year or so to get to the point where i can feel my way around producing well printed shirts with as little shirt attrition as possible. :)

I think last night's experiment with Justin.tv worked out pretty well.  The main reason for looking into switching has to do with the fact that as a mac user i can broadcast at a higher resolution (using Quicktime Broadcaster) than i can with Ustream (on which you can only use the browser based flash encoder to stream).  I've been pretty happy with UStream, and i certainly like the way they manage the IRC channel better, but i think the clearer video of drawings in progress is something rather significant.  If you watched last night, i welcome your feedback.

There, shirts are almost done.  Now to finish up and head home so i can get back to drawing.

(this is actually a little bit more testing on the posting structure i can use when working with Posterous - really, it's microblogging using email. ^^;;)

This was a sketch that sort of came out of nowhere one evening when i was fiddling around unsure of what exactly i wanted to draw. Tiredness does sometimes lead to getting the conscious brain out of the way of your creative side....

[this is actually a post testing using Posterous to post screenshots. There are a few ways i can do it, this is one of them.]
